8 3/4 leak

8 3/4 leak - 12/03/08 08:47 PM

I need to repair a small leak in my 8 3/4
I did not use a gasket last time, just sealer.

Anybody use the Right Suff for the rear?
Or get a gasket?

Can I get it done without taking the axles out?

Thanks

You have to pull the axles out to get the pumpkin out no way around it.

I always used a gasket and put a light bead of black silcone on and smear it on with my finger and wipe off the extra.

Makes sure you clean the mating surfaces make them spotless and you should ne good to go.

i never used the rightstuff on the third member it should seal fine on it on with or with out a gasket but if you ever have to take the pumpkin out to clean it it will give you hell.

Axles must come out aways.just enough so you can pull the pumpkin, if you take them out all the way without putting some electrical tape around the splines they're likely to cut the seals & they for sure dont need to come out anywhere near that far. I prefer a gasket/permatex #3, many prefer sealant/no gasket & if so make sure you have a uniform bead around the perimeter expecially on the insides of the studs.
