Question concerning /6 Static Timing

Im currently in the process of installing an electronic Mopar Ignition in my 72 Dart(it currently has a 1976 225 with points,go figure)

Im looking in my Older Haynes Manual and notice something that puzzles me. Hoping someone could decipher this for me. In the image its highlighted in Blue.

What does this mean?

Written out it says:

2(degree symbol)30' BTDC +_ 2(degree symbol)30'

I think that' s a missprint. For more accurate degree expressions, you can divide degrees into "minutes of a degree" using the ( ' ) sign, and then even down into "seconds of a degree" using the ( " ) sign

NOBODY can set timing to minutes of an angle, and I can assure you that the cam drive, dist. gear, and dist itself are not up to that amount of accuracy.

Myself I would go 5 or 10 btdc & if it doesn't kick back when starting/ping/or idle rough(which I dont think it will) you'll be better off than the factory setting which iirc is TDC. Also keep in mind that the slot length (& possibly the springs but I think they are the same, one light one & one thick looped one) will be different between the elec & the older point dist so you could do some mixing/matching if you want to experiment to get a better curve.

The points dist didn't come with the '76 225. Eiter it's the original '72 dist or someone changed it on the '76 motor.

2* 30' is 2degrees 30seconds, or 2 and 1/2 degrees (2.5*)

Intial timing will depend on what year and application the dist you are using is for. The mechanical adv was different for different models and years. A dist with 7.5R adv plate and 2.5* intitial adv will only give you 17.5* total. On the other hand, a 14 R adv plate and 2.5* intial will put you close to the desired 30* total a slant six likes.
A '72 Dart will like between 8* and 12* int adv, a lighter car and/or lower rear gear will like more int adv. I'd try a 10R plate and 10* int adv to start. I run a 9R plate with 12* int in my street '68 Valiant 200, the track '68 Valiant Signet gets a 7.5* plate with 15* int.
If you don' know the mech adv, keep bumping the int up till it pings under load, then back it off 2*.

Its a 72 Dart with the 198 /6 removed and a later model 225 /6 swapped in. Why they didnt change it to electronic ignition when they did the engine swap baffles me.

Nice try but incorrect. The first division of a degree is a MINUTE, not a second. SECONDS are indicated with ( " ) and MINUTES are indicated with ( ' ) as I said earlier.
