I was checking info about a Dana in Hollander the other day and noticed that 1n 1970 Chrysler offered 2 Dana's for the 70 B Body cars only , 1 was a 23 spline offset axle one offered for the 68 to 70 B bodies and 2 was a 35 spline equal axle type for the 70 B body only. Is this true and why was #2 built that way? I was more familiar with the offset axle one and thought that was the only way they were built.

I believe 1970 would have been a transition year going from the "old" 23 spline to the "new" 35 spline. I don't have the measurements, but I'm pretty sure the 35 spline axles are bigger in diameter and stronger.

Your absolutely correct on that about bigger being better and stronger Same thing on the transition in 1970

They also changed from the Dana Power Loc ( clutch type carrier) to the Dana Trac Loc...( cone type)..
so they fixed the axle problem, and gave us a problem filed carrier.

1970 passenger car Dana 60 rears came with 35 spline, 4-pinion Power-Lock clutch style sure-grips.

The 2-pinion, 35 spline, clutch style Track-lock was introduced in the 1971 model year.
