Code P0452 Evap Emis Sys 04 Durango ????? - 03/23/13 03:33 PM

As mentioned, got a P0452 code in the wifes 04 Dodge Durango.

It looks to be related to the pressure sensor that vents fumes to the evap. emission system (vapor canistor).

Just wondering what the experienced dealer mechanics have encountered with this other than the obvious conclusion that the sensor is bad?? It appears to be part-of-assembly to the fuel sending/pump unit in the tank.

The sensor isn't available separately from what AZ tells me.

Any info is appreciated.

I have never worked on a durango but my buddy had an 05 focus that came up with an evaporative code (cannot remember which one) and after some reading found that the air line between the filler cap and the cannister next to the tank likes to plug with spiders nest (seriously, that's what I read). The solution was to disconnect at the canister and use compressed air at a low pressure to clear it. Code never returned.
Of course you are sure the filler cap is sealing right?

has it had a fuel pump recently? if you have a scanner you can command the vent sol on or off and see if its actually working. you may have to go to the dealer for it, or it may be part of the fuel pump assy. when it comes to engine management AZ would be the last place I went, unless of course you dont mind doing it again in a month. Unfortunately it will need to be checked out, evap sucks to debug without the correct equipment.

Make sure the cap is sealing well as mentioned before. Probably just a split EVAP hose. This is very common. Check for this at the throttle body, EVAP check port, purge solenoid, and charcoal canister for a bad hose.

p0452 means the computer has not seen the switch close(NLVD) when vacuum was applied. (90%) time it's from a crack in the hoses.

OK, I'll check out the plumbing from the throttle body to the canister purge. The fuel fill cap works fine, but will take another look.

Thanks to ALL!!

P0452 NVLD Pressure Switch Stuck Closed - With Automatic Transmission
Possible Causes Setting Conditions
EVAP purge solenoid control circuit is shorted to ground
NVLD assembly has failed (the switch may be stuck closed)
NVLD connector is damaged (check pins for damage, and for moisture)
NVLD switch signal circuit is shorted to ground
PCM has failed
Vac Leak
Engine started; and immediately after engine startup, the PCM activates the NVLD solenoid to test the NVLD switch circuit. If the PCM does not detect that the switch is open under these conditions, DTC P0452 is set.

This code sets in 2 Trip(s).
This code will turn on the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

This ALL helps a lot! Thank you.

My first guess is it's probably a vacuum leak. The fuel tank has never been down and otherwise there should be no damage to the wiring but you never know until one gets out there and probes around with a multimeter.

I have a pretty good professional background in automotive electrical troubleshooting, but no access to the particular tech info, so all that info is a great start.

Thanks again!
