What is the largest bore steel shim gasket available off the shelf?

How big do you need ? The MP steel shim is 4.410ish , Mr. Gasket is about the same ...

The Mr. Gasket measures 4.420-4.425ish.

I needed a 4.5 bore, but dont think anybody makes one.

I believe the Superformance shim gasket has the biggest bore size, right at 4.430.

I should specify that I'm looking for a ~.020 thick gasket.

I'm going to figure out exactly what I need later tonight, but a set of stock bore size fel-pro's (advertised 4.41) overhung into two of my combustion chambers slightly.

And the MP shim gaskets have me a bit confused. I don't trust any specs on anything from Mopar, and they're advertised as 4.38 on Summit.

Also, theres two part numbers, one is 21.95 (DCC-4286754) and wont ship until 4/19, one is 159.95 and ships today (DCC-5155237). What gives?

I don't really want to run a Mr Gasket flat gasket, but 160 bucks for steel shim gaskets is rediculous.

iirc there was a prior thread about this & the expensive MP one was a 3 layer one like Cometics are & the cheaper ones were regular steel shim

The mp 21.95 gasket is the one you want , that 160 gaskest came about after the original supplier of the 19 gasket stopped making them , Zippy had a hand in getting the 21.95 gasket back on the market ... I think ...

What do you have against the Mr. Gasket steel shim gasket ?

Was the Felpro a composite or steel shim ? If steel shim why not just trim it back ?

Hey John, nothing really against the Mr Gasket I suppose, but they're coated with some sort of elastomer I believe, and I'd like to coat them with copper spray. I'm not sure if this is ok.

The Fel-Pro I have is a composite.

And you lead into my next question, do you think its alright to trim a steel shim if necessary? What is best to use?

Anyone know where I can get a Mopar gasket this month?

I would grind it with a dremel tool ? I have a set of the mr. gaskets, didn't realize they were coated , I'd spray them with copper coat.

If someone doesn't come thru with a source I have 4 or 5 sets ....

The MRG steel shims are coated with what looks to be high heat aluminum paint.

I destroyed one trying to trim it enough to clear my bores.

Hey John that's a generous offer, Jegs says they will ship in a week so I ordered from there but I appreciate it

Von, what happened that you destroyed them? Is MRG Mr Gasket, or Mancini Racing Gasket?

I attempted to trim the gasket enough to clear my bore. I pulled the lip back to the embossed part of the gasket, still overhangs on one cylinder.

MRG=Mr. Gasket

Cometic has a gasket that is very thin I believe around .021..

Check to see what bore dia they offer in that gasket. Frankly Id rather run a Cometic than a steel shim...All else equal.

John is correct. This will still yield decent quench for me (put me at .047) but I'd prefer to be spot on at .040 and 10.5:1 compression. Also, I'm not sure my deck/head surface is ideal for a cometic, I understand they're fussy about it.

I thought I might have spec'ed one thinner? Maybe it was a custom deal. but who knows.? My feeling is that if Cometic has it in the bore you want, go that route. ive used Cometics on all types of engines. Most have the required RA, but some didn't. I just put two coats of Copper coat and install it tacky..
