I remeber reading something about california banning straight exaust tips at some point in time. Maybe that is the result.

In 1970 and 1971 when you ordered 440+6 or hemi you could not get exhaust tips. The cars came equipt like this one, with the turn downs. It was called the noise reduction package.

I took a look in Olas file and all Hemi Cuda verts have N41 and N42 on the tag anyway..

Karl,

1970-71 E-Bodies: Only the 440-6 4 speed and hemi cars that were originally ordered from a dealer in California (and that were to be registered in CA), recieved the N97 (Noise Reduction Package). After the noise law was passed.
There are a few exceptions.

My lists that you have are only for the convertibles.

This hemicuda hard top on E-Bay, ordered new from CA, has the N97 package. So yes, no chrome exhaust tips (N42).

I'm not sure who's reproductions those are but ends appear chromed, plus look to be flush to the back of the muffler. They dont look to have the same downward curve as factory ones. Here's what a 40 year old NOS original looks like.

Ola,

I can't make out that last digits of the VIN on that fender tag. Is it "608"? The car that is currently for sale at Masterpiece Classic Cars in Indiana VIN ends in in 608 and I was wondering if this is it's fender tag?

Masterpiece Classic Cars 71 HemiCuda

Thanks!

Those do not look like the factory downturns, they look more like they they come straight out the back of the muffler and are just angle cut.

Wow that ebay add says 600k invested ? I would expect a more correct restoration. Nice car just saying.
