Over the years we have done a fair amount of stock muscle car engines. We have a good package for the resto guys in 383 and 440 engines.

Care to share the particulars of the build?

Just noticed the water temp , is that a little low ? Would it have made more power , though maybe not a lot more, if the engine were up to operating temp ?

Did you jet it at all? What do the spark plugs look like? The BSFC look a little on the rich side to me, maybe not though on your local fuel

What HP do you think the engine would have made if it ws run at operating temp. like 180-190 140 seems kinda low for testing isn't it?

sumone made a very good choice in cam selection!
This Block was fully machined on our CNC block machine, Torque plate honed, our valve job, just like all of our builds. It is 4.290 bore, Diamond shelf stock pistons, eagle rods, stock crank, our muscle car replacement cam, 906 heads with big valves, harden exhaust seats, 9.3 compression, stock rockers, 750 carb, intake was a stock replacement dual plane from Mopar. Just a great engine. Yes we tuned it after the cam run in and rings seated. We did not try to tune every last amount out of it, it going in a restored car for show and a little street driving. The customer wanted it broke in and a safe tune on it. The BSFC is were our winter fuel has been for this compression and the water temp was were we like it , oil temp was important also. Hope this answers your questions, thanks Pete
I grew up on a 383 in my 69 Sport Satellite. I sprayed it, beat it, blew head gaskets, broke rings, broke piston skirts and you name it.I couldnt kill it. The 383 is a great little piece, and as you and I know, with the right selection of parts, as you have done, you got a great engine. The customer should be thrilled. They are a lot like a 318, parts selection and care to not overbuild them is critical. Nice little piece.
and yes, tuning on this crappy gas we have is aweful.

I am curious about the head work. After the big valves went in was the short turn dressed up? Great little engine there. Can you tell us more about the camshaft?

What a nice engine, I would guess fuel economy would be great as well. This would be a terrific driver.
