Paint repair/ scuff removal????

My mom came into town and stayed at my place last weekend while I was in Reno. Instead of renting a car, I let her borrow my truck. She wanted to do something nice by filling the tank and running it through a car wash. Needles to say, she cut the corner to tight entering the car wash and scrubbed the steel post protecting the money collecting machine. There aren't any dents, but some of the white paint form the post, scuffed up the bed side of my truck. I've tested a little area with my finger nail and some hand cleaner and it looks like it'll come off.

Do you guys have any recommendations on what to use to take the scuff off? It seems to just be latex paint transferred from the post. Using a buffer makes me nervous because most of the scuffs are on the wheel arch body lines.

just try some hand rubbing compound on a rag and buff and see what you can get off.

Is there a specific product you recommend?

Lacquer thinner will take the transfered paint right off. As for the scratches that remain, depends on how deep they are.

Daughter did the same thing on her Echo. Used 3M's Perfect-It 3000. Worked like a charm. You can use it by hand or with a buffer and sponge pad.

I'm going to go get some rubbing compound to try. But I do have some acetone I was thinking about trying. Do you think acetone would be too aggressive and cut into the clear coat on the truck?

Use the Acetone... It's exactly what I was going to suggest when I first opened this thread..... My buddy owns a high end detail shop & deals with paint transfer frequently.. He always starts with acetone..
