MSD wiring - 01/24/13 12:27 AM

I am in the process of wiring an MSD 6 ignition into my 65 Dodge Coronet. It looks like the ballast resistor's function will be eliminated.I will remove the dark blue wire J2A.My question is do I use the brown J3 wire to feed the red wire on the MSD 6 box? Will the rest of the existing circuitry function the same e.g. voltage regulator alternator etc? Are there any other wiring changes I need to make this work? The MS D wiring is pretty straight forward.

You will need to feed the MSD red wire with the START and the RUN wires together after you remove the ballast.

tie the brown and blue together and hook to the small red on the MSD box

There is a brown and blue on one side of the resistor and two blues on the other side of the resistor. The brown/ blue looks like the start circuit because it by passes the resistor. It looks like those go to the red on the MSD box.Do I just leave the other two blue wires alone?

Actually it looks like I need to take whatever is on the each side of the resister ,tie it together and feed to the red MSD wire e.g.two blues on one side to brn/blue on other side.Sound right?

Dark Blue = RUN
Brown Wire = CRANK
other end
Blue = ECU pin (not required on MSD) fed by Dark Blue
Brown Wire = higher resistance going to coil fed by Dark Blue/Brown Wire (not required on MSD)

You could just tie all four of these together and connect it to the small RED wire on the MSD. Or, just take the Dark Blue (RUN) and the Brown Wire (CRANK) and connect them to the small RED wire. This way you are not feeding the non-used blue and brown wire voltage.

You would take the brown off the one side and the 2 blues off the other side and connect them to the small red , the other blue that is coupled with the broown should be the wire that goes to the plus side of the coil, you don't need to keep that connected to the brown.

I was working off of the wiring diagram in the 65 manual and until I pulled the wiring harness out today, didn't realize I am dealing with a single ballast resistor. It was a little confusing, and a lot clearer now .Thanks for your help.
