Storing and protecting a buildsheet? Link? - 11/22/08 03:04 PM

I can remember reading where someone posted on how to properly store or preserve a broadcast sheet but cannot find the link? If anyone knows how or where it is? I believe it was posted that they should not be stored in certain plastic films because of the acid in the plastic?...Thanks Guys.

I use the acid free plastic sleeve to store my Broadcast Sheet.
If there is a better way I like to know also

Do they actually say "acid free" on them from like "Walmart" or other??....Or do you need to get specialty covers from say a photo shop? Not sure exactly what to look for. Thanks.

Yes it has acid free on the box or label.
Get them at any school or office supply like staples.

I ran the one from my Cuda through a laminator
30 years ago and it still looks brand new. The nice
thing is it also takes a lot more abuse and it's
sealed. I have found it's nice to also run a color
scan of the original and print it out on heavy bond
stock. Thats the one to pull out and play with.

For what it's worth.

I only laminate the ones that are in such poor condition that they need the extra support to hold it all together.

Otherwise, an acid free page protector is best.

Well, to each his own. The 30 years on mine makes
me feel pretty good. I also have a color scan uploaded to my website just in case of fire etc.

Does the acid free page protect against the
accidental spill of a toddlers glass of juice
or buddy's knocked over beer glass? probably not.
Nice to have a back up.

I just have my build sheet, electrical cards and owners manual in a 1 gallon plastic bag in my fire safe.

Comic book / colector card type shops usually sell all types of plastic sleeves, cases, etc for preserving paper items like a build sheet. They also sell really nice cardboard magazine boxes for storing old car magazines.

I would also make a color copy for reference, and put the original back in the car so the car and original build sheet don't become seperated. It seems when I buy a car the owner has the buildsheet, but cant recall where he stored it...
