Disc brakes. Pin or slider???? - 01/08/13 03:49 PM

On the 70's factory disc which do you prefer, pin or slider calipers?

Pins are probably a better design, however the sliders are more prolific out there . . . used sliders on my 70 Sport Satellite . . .

Just depends on parts you find/use . . .

I've had both. If you properly maintain them there is no difference. I think one of them has better pad selection but I forget which one that is.

Pins have a bit less residual friction and require less maintenance to remain that way. Pins also have longer max. piston stroke, allowing more horrors before losing the fluid (not that any of us would ever allow that).

Still, 6 of one, 1/2-dozen of the other...and sliders are much more available.

Pin thype has 2 pins that hold the pad and calipar in place and go thru the pad.Slider type just slides in and has the 2 5/16s shrt bolts that go into the bracket from the top. They have the small pieces that go under the bolt that keeps them from lifting.Rocky
