Need oil pan advice

Need oil pan advice - 01/06/13 01:59 AM

I'm having a 408 built for my 69 dart, it will be used for a street car that sees the track 2-3 nights a year, so I need advice on the best oil pan.

The car will not exceed 6500rpm on a normal basis, so I'm assuming it is important to not ignore sufficient capacity as a concern.

Any stock application alternatives or is my best bet after market and extra capacity?

I'd suggest welding a horizontle baffle several inches wide around the perimeter of the sump. Might go to www.moparchat.com then scroll down to circle track chat & click on it then peruse Sanborns' oiling mods that are in a sticky at the top. One of the countries' foremost SB oiling experts (& alot applies or or can be adapted to BB)

If you're drag racing a stock pan will be fine. I've been running one on my truck for 4 years and when I pulled the pan there was verty little main bearing wear and almoast no rod bearing wear. Never lost oil pressure once in all my racing. Shifted when the tach hit 6500. Road racing is a whole different animal.

This car would only see drag racing, like I said 2-3 might a year.

If your using a 360 block for your build a oil pan off of one of the 360 motors out of a Cordoba or Dodge Magnum have a little deeper sump and hold a little more oil. As RapidRobert has stated all of the stock Mopar SB oil pans can be improved on by adding a accelration and deaccelleration baffle on the ends of the sumps, a lot of the damage done to Mopar SB with stock oil pans with no baffles occurs when you let off on the other end of the track(especially 1/4 mile tracks) and all the oil gets slung up into the front of the motor and timing change area, oil pressure goes down until you let off the brakes or hit the throttle to return the oil into the sump

I've got a fully baffled Kevko pan on my car, I like it.
