B Body 1970 AM-FM Radio ID - 11/19/08 09:14 PM

I think the paper tag from up top is gone.Does anyone have radio ID codes. What other numbers found on it would better identify it.As being for a Dodge or Plymouth.Or Coronet Or Charger. But I think its from a 70 Dodge Coronet.

They said Chrysler Solid State whether they were in a Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth.

That is a correct 1970 B body AM FM .It is correct for
Charger, Superbee , Coronet, Satellite, Road Runner, GTX etc.
ALL 1970 B body AM FM radios will say "Chrysler" on the dial face.
Of all the Mopar radios, this one is the "king" .

Re: B Body 1970 AM-FM Radio ID - 11/19/08 11:34 PM

While we are on the subject , lets take a few moments to review some of the unique features of a
1970 B body radio. Typically, the AM FM will be part # 2884753 . Although this radio chasis is very simular to the 70-up A bodies , there are several distinctive features found only on the 1970 B body . The lense , for example, is a "stepped" lense (not a flat lense) and the upper section will be painted black. The push buttons are black and unique in that they have a square opening facing UP . This is the only Mopar radio to have BLACK buttons and squares facing UP.
Also note the alignment pins on the front housing
and the holes for the mounting bolts on the front. The knob shaft surrounds are NOT threaded .

Re: B Body 1970 AM-FM Radio ID - 11/19/08 11:48 PM

Now, lets compare and contrast a 70-up A body AM FM . Because the chasis and dimensions are very simular, many people are easily mislead into buying a much more common A body radio. This radio pictured below is NOT correct for 1970 B body, but is very often mistaken as such. The unit pictured below is a "dime a dozen " A body .
Lets take note of some of the differences.
For example, notice the flat lense . Also take note that the push buttons, although black, are smooth on top and do not have the square openings. The A body does not have alignment pins on front, nor does it have the holes for the mounting bolts on front. In contrast, it has threaded knob shaft surrounds that the B body does not have.
Those are just a few of the differences that will help you, when out shopping for a "real deal" 1970 B body AM FM.
The 70 B am fm is a pretty tough radio to find.
To give you an example, most people consider the 1968-9 B body AM FM thumbwheel to be "rare" . We see probably 10 times as many of those come in for service than the "elusive" 1970 units .

Mopar radios can be tough to tell apart with all of the different bodies but I think its a 1970 B Body. Mopar Radio
