904 or 727 on an engine stand? - 12/13/12 08:16 PM
Has anyone done this for valvebody work? Any issues?
Right now I am working on a 904...
Thanks!

piece of cake. Bolt it up just like you would a block, except with a nut on the other side..

I mounted a 904 on a engine stand when I installed a manual valve body. Worked great. Would not have done it any other way.

Did a 727 on a stand. Great for valve body work but can't take front pump out with it mounted.

Been using this on a bench for years. Works great. Plywood, some 2x3's and angle iron.

Cool stuff guys, thanks!
My main concern was cracking the case or something like that.
I'll bolt mine up tomorrow and get to work while the snow comes in!
Thanks again!

Friend of mine made this setup for me; lets you rotate the trans from vertical to horizontal, etc., and leaves the bellhousing area clear.

I went even cheaper. Because I don't build a trans very often, I just used my engine hoist and a strap. You can set the level wherever you want.

The trans case shown above is in my 59 Coronet now. Here's what my home-made trans stand looks like w/o a trans on it.

Another angle. The tubes are threaded so you can just bolt the case to the tubes.
