American torque thrust wheels on 64 B body - 12/10/12 02:53 PM

Thinking about getting a complete set for my 64 Polara 500 anniversary gold with a white top.
15x6 front and 15x8 rear.
Anyone know how much they weight and had any experience with vendor.

Thanks

I don't know what they weight, but I got mine from Newstalgia Wheel. Everybody's prices are similar, could have bought them from anybody. I got mine from them because they specifically advertised the correct right and left lug nuts. When my wheels came, the lug nuts were not in any of the wheel boxes. Called them and quickly had the problem fixed.

fyi, the rear wheels will be 8.5, not 8.

i have 15x7's all around on my 65 coronet. the 15x8.5's won't fit, unless you raise the back end a bunch.

15x4.5 front 15x8 rears. Got mine from Summit because they include shipping and brokerage fees in their quotes. Not sure on the weight but they are light. Best choice for an early b body too.

The 63 SF has a set of very early 8X15's Americans with 245/60's on the back. Don't know the weight but definitely lighter than the stock steel wheel. They are not 'reverse' and the tire is about 3/4" from the wheel opening, at the closest point.

I use the 15 x 6 up front since mine is a street car and I like to run a normal size radial tire for the street. Works great for me and you cant beat TT on the 62 to 65 Mopars as they look great to me. I bought mine from "Jims Racing Tires" here in Balt Md. Ron

Newstalgia Wheel doesn't list the Torque-Thrust D in a 15x8 size, but Summit does.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/are-10558065/overview/

It has a 4.5 inch backspacing instead of the 3.75" backspacing of the 15x8.5

If your not set on Torque Thrust only wheels just picked up a set of these for my Challenger.

They are called "Old School" wheels by MB Wheels, they came boxed up from Voxx.

Got them on a black Friday sale at Discount Tire Direct for $78 a wheel, I think they are normally $91 each.

I bought four 15x8 with 4 1/2 rear spacing.
They sell a 15x7 also.

Re: American torque thrust wheels on 64 B body - 12/11/12 05:26 PM

I did manage to squeeze some old 8-1/2 reverse US wheels under the 64 polara but couldn't run much of a tire. Those wheels by far, were the lightest street wheel I ever owned.

Re: American torque thrust wheels on 64 B body - 12/11/12 07:10 PM

torq thrust d's come in both 8 and 8.5 widths. the 8" rim is a speical run that is only offered a couple times of the year and so they are a little bit harder to find. the offset is different between the 2 widths so check things out! if you go to ron's rims on ebay you will find both and their specs. summit also has them on occasion. good luck. i tried the 8.5 on my hemi dart clone but ended up going with the 8" 1s as my dana is a direct connection a-body width rear not the more common b-body dana. dave

I like the original torq Thrust, not the "D" We use to refer to the "D" as the ones with Elepahnt toes I ran a set of the original aluminum 8.5 with 3/4 offset on the rear of my 1963 Belevedere M.W. 2 sedan, Joe Alusie(SP?) owns that car now

I just want to get in that car and stand on the loud pedal
Although it would be like mine, all stab and steer,my hands would be a blur trying to keep it between the fences
Thanks for the compliment Ron that means alot I would still love to see our cars leaving the line side by side

I love American Racing Torque Trust wheels on early b-bodies, but ET wheels are absolutely killer looking. If I was starting from scratch, I would get a set of ET wheels for the authentic vintage look. Options are always good.

Every time I go looking at wheels, I end up at these by US Mag. Retro Torque Thrust look, in a slightly updated package. I like the black too, just a little crisper than grey, although they also offer a grey finish. And, these are very affordable.

I like Torque Thrusts but since production has been moved the term "American torque thrust wheels " should be changed to Chinese torque thrust wheels...
