Milling heads for Compression - 11/17/08 09:54 PM

How much can you safely mill the Eddy 84cc heads in an effort to increase compression?

GwaiiEagle,
I assume you are asking how much can you safely mill. We have milled some of the RPM heads as much as .100" and it was fine but normally we like to stay at about .085".

How much would you have to mill the intake if the heads had been milled .085?

Had to mill the intake .050 to get it to fit when I switched to eddy heads from stock.

At .085 off the head deck you should remove
.1045 off the intake side.

For every .010 cut from the head deck, you cut
.0123 off intake. Example 100 off the head deck, you cut the intake side .123
I also try to cut the intake runner side of the
head, it raises the port entry of the runner.
And when you cut the intake side of the head
you can use any intake manifold on the engine.
After cutting the intake side of the head you
need to port the intake runner to match up good
with the port entry.

right. if you cut the intake to fit the head, then you now have an intake that's only good for that engine/head combination.

if you cut the head to fit the intake, you keep the interchangability of the intake...good if you change your engine combo later, or sell the used intake to help finance a new one, etc.

I cut .060 off mine and they cc'd at 71 cc.
