Lifter Tick Question

Lifter Tick Question - 11/19/12 03:39 AM

Engine is a Magnum 360 with the Crane/Mopar cam used in the Mopar 390 horse crate engines. .501/.513 if memory serves me correctly. I am running stock iron magnum heads and stock rockers and push rods (new).

My concern is that the lifters tick rather loudly after the engine is shut down. I don't hear any tick or clatter while the engine is running. Maybe the push rods are a tad long or valves too tight? Should I consider running adjustable valve train gear?

Thanks!

After the engine is shut down I hear a sound like metal cooling off (ticking) but it is pretty loud. Similar to lightly hitting the intake with an open end wrench. It isn't the headers or anything lower in the block. I am assuming it is the lifters. It could be the intake but I have never had an aluminum intake make that noise before. The intake is a Professional Products Crosswind (RPM Air Gap knock off). The sound is definitely coming from the valley area. I would get a video but the motor is out of the car and will most likely be going into my truck. I wanted to address the ticking if anyone thinks it could be a problem while the motor is out.

The motor runs great and holds good oil pressure 75 cold and 40ish warm. Maybe I'll pull the valve covers to reset the rockers and verify everything looks good while I hand crank the motor.
