How many AARs were bench seat column autos? - 11/18/12 01:40 AM

I know that they only kept percentages on most options but didn't know if one of those was more documented.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

All the AARs and T/As I have seen were 4 speeds..

That may be true but they made autos and column shift autos AND bench seat ones.

Chrysler did track some percentages, but they would be for all Cudas, with the AARs lumped in.

So, all we can do is count 'known' cars.

I am aware of 154 column shift AARs so far.

Of those, 85 of them are known to have bench seats.

If you are interested in a 'color report' for yours, see http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/services-1.shtml for details.

Pretty sure more automatics were produced than 4 speeds.

A lot more that it "appears" today. No AAR owners go out of their way to mention thier cars were originally column auto.

Was just talking about this today with Restorations By Julius. He's owned at least 3 column auto AARs... And converted them all to floorshift for customers.

Cuda Al in our club has an original paint FJ6 AAR that he bought in 1972 used that came with bench column auto. He converted it to bucket console auto in the early 90's.

...Back in the early 80's I stopped to look at a AAR setting at a body shop just off the Bowling Green parkway near Morgantown Ky. It was In Violet, had a column auto, ...don't remember the seats though.

I had a J6 Bench-Column in the 70s when I was a teenager.

Bought a C7 Bench-Column in 88 and still have it. Converted it to a 4 speed years ago.

I've seen several of them over the years.

I have a column-bucket T/A also. Probably less of them around.

2 of the 3 AARs I looked at when I was trying to buy one in the 80's were column shift, one had a bench seat. My 71 cuda 340 was a column shift/bench and a 71 440-6 I almost bought was also. My 70 is a column shift with buckets.

So how about bench seat 4 speeds, were there any? How about 3 speed manuals on the tree? On the floor? With a bench?

A V-code column-bench car? That must be uncommon! (???)

Got a pic? I'd like to see it!

Was almost on my way to get this one, but I held out for a 4 speed instead:

No,I'm sorry I don't have a pic,in fact,I haven't seen it since he towed it past the store to show it to me,,and you'll like this,he kind of lucked into it,cause they were actually going there to look at a '70 Barracuda 318/auto car, when they were told the 318 car wasn't for sale, but they could buy the AAR,for $10k,,they bought it,they kind of kept in touch with the guy,a year goes by,guy calls them, tells them to come get this other car out of his yard,,price?...free!..it had a 'Cuda hood on it,pretty straight body, grille and all..can you say lucky?...and for a topper,,a few years before all this, they scored a '70 Challenger 6pk/4-speed car, dark green, engine out but rebuilt, parked since the late '70's,Dana and intake/carbs missing,if I remember right, price was $6500.All of these are just parked, not much happening with them last I heard.
