My '71 383 came from the factory with .001" undersized mains. I can't seem to find any .001" under main bearings, anyone make them????

Put standards on it. The engine wont know the difference..

That is a common problem with the low deck blocks. You can try some different brands to see if you get lucky. Or have the crank ground and start over.

What is the largest clearance I can get away with? This will be a low horse build (~335 hp) in a daily driver.

i don't think the .001" under bearings have been made in decades. a standard bearing would probably yeild a .0035" clearance. too loose for a driver. i'd consider going .010" under.

Mock it up with a std set & measure what you get (& post it). A high vol pump MAY help if it's a bit excessive

I might have some NOS ones. I bought a bunch of factory big block bearings from a dealership that was going out of business a few years ago.

I had over four thou clearance on the mains on a street 440 when it was put together over twenty years ago. Has had a lot of street miles along with some passes at the track. No problems.Has 60 psi oil pressure at 1000 rpm and 80 going down the road with a Milodon hi vol pump.

Sure, but if he has it apart now, why not just do it right and either cut the crank .010 or locate the .001 bearings? I'd spend the couple extra dollars now so I didn't even have to worry about it later.

That's a generic listing , there isn't any guarantee they have a .001 oversize set.

Parts business is great....moved into 1300 sq foot warehouse, have branched into antique ignition&electrical parts for all cars*trucks,tractors,1920-1975. Worldwide sales. Sorry dont have anything for BB truck conversion. Lower back problems have made me switch to lightweight parts.....check moparts truck parts section....
