alternator mounting on SB 360 with A/C - 11/06/12 07:32 PM

The "swing arm" bracket for the alternator has a second brace that attaches somewhere to the front of the engine. It has been too long since I disambled this engine to remember exactly where it attaches to.

My original 76 block was swapped by the machine shop for a 77 block (because of deck twist issues). Is there a difference in the blocks whare the bracket is meant to attach? The new engine also has Edelbrock RPM heads if that matters.

Good luck. The bracket you are referring to bolts into the front of the head.

Edelbrock says their heads are bolt-on. Well, yes they are...they bolt to the block, but everything is out of whack, since the Eddy heads are longer and protrude towards the front of the car. Eddy gives you the hole in the head for the alt. bracket, but since the head is longer, the geometry is off, and the bracket is useless.

I have the same combo on my Challenger, plus I have a/c. It took some creative engineering to get it all to work, and I'm still not totally happy with the results.

Thanks. That explains what I am seeing. So I guess I will need to shorten that arm by the 1 in. or so that the Eddy heads stick out by.
