What is the difference between a 5.7 liter Hemi and the 392 available in a new Challenger? How many Cubic Inches are there in a 5.7? I'm pretty good at math, just don't know this formula.
If this conversion ends up fairly close, what did they do to the 392 to make it what it is compared to a 5.7?

IIRC a 5.7 is 345 cubic inches.

I'm pretty sure the 392(6.4) evolved from the 6.1, not the 5.7.

5.7 is 3.92x3.58 B&S
6.1 is 4.06x3.58 B&S
6.4 (392) is 4.09x3.72 B&S

the 6.4 is a different block than the 6.1, as it has the different cam tunnel for the VVT cams and additional oil passages for MDS lifters like the 5.7

you CAN stroke a 5.7 to 392 CID with a .030" overbore and 4" stroke crank, FWIW....

besides the bore and stroke differences, the 6.4 has bigger valve and port heads, a different intake, and IIRC essentially factory short tube stainless steel headers, and a bigger cam than the 5.7

think of it like comparing a 318 to an E58 360....

exhaust system is different. 6.4 has flapper valves in the pipe. The engines blocks come painted hemi orange, not basic black like like a 5.7. over 100 hp. difference.
