How Many Times B4 Replacing Spark Plugs

How Many Times B4 Replacing Spark Plugs - 10/23/12 09:26 PM

How many times do you pull your spark plugs (for reading, or for cleaning, etc.) before you worry about the spark plug seals not sealing anymore? Is this even an issue?

My 2$ NGK spark plugs are no longer available and the replacement is 8$ each now. I want to reset the gap but I am first curious about the above. If I can keep pulling my cheapies out then I will, but I am not sure if the spark plug seals are good over and over again.

Thanks

Not even a concern.but they can only be cleaned so many times.they just seem to go dead,if fouled too many times. out/back in.no problem. 10 times or more without concern.

I have reused the stock passsenger car spark plug gasket, seals, many, many times without problems I owned and flew a airplane for a number of years, it had copper spark plug gaskets and you where suppose to replace them anytime you removed the spark plugs. I learned later that you can aneal them(copper) and reuse them legally and safely

""go to NGKwholesale.com and see what they got for prices.""

They are about .20 cents cheaper per plug and they only show the new NGK part number. Thanks for the link.

It appears that NGK is getting rid of the V-Power (cheapy) line and are replacing them with the waaay more expensive iridium line. The part number that I have been using is #BPR7EY and the new one is #BPR7EIX.

Is there such a thing as spark plug gaskets that you can add to the existing plug?
I have some new spark plugs setting around with gaskets on them but I can't get the gaskets off to use them.

I decided to pull my plugs again last night and re-gap the existing plugs. They are in good shape but I would love to put new gaskets on them just to make sure of a good seal.

Is there a trick to keeping the metal tip screwed on tightly to the spark plug? It seems that every plug I pull the metal tip needs tightened down.

Thanks to all

Don't lose sleep over the gaskets, unless they are split they will last as long as the plugs or longer.

Also,as for price I can buy NGK's from NAPA for less than anywhere else.

Copper spark plug gaskests use to be availble, it is a old racers trick too use the copper gaskets to lower the heat rating on the spark plugs Check around to see if there still out there I use a pair of plyers and a box end wrench to hold the spark plug to tighten the tops, no more than 1/8 to 1/4 turn max You can ruin them if you try to hard Same thing on the stock gaskets, box end wrench and a pair of plyers to wrangle them off
