2000 Sebring - New battery, not cranking

2000 Sebring - New battery, not cranking - 10/12/12 10:33 PM

My old reliable 2000 Sebring would not crank over when the key is turned, so since I've never put a battery in it before I put in a new one. Still, the engine will not crank over when the key is turned. From your experience, what else could be wrong, where is the part and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance!

Try holding the key in start and move the shifter if it's an auto. Could just be a linkage adjustment or neurtal saftey switch issue.

Turn on your headlights...and try to start the car...if the lights stay on its the starter...if u do this in the daytime you would need a helper...at night u can do it yourself

Had a similar situation with our Sebring a couple months ago. Battery showed a little low on the meter. Cleaned connections, no start. Jumper cables, no start. Had to put a starter in it.

Had this happen with my '99 LXi last week.

All the above suggestions are great and if they don't locate the issue here's what I found.

The band clamps for the + and - have an inner band I had to remove and clean because there was corrosion between them and the main clamp.

Really hard to detect if you aren't specifically looking for it.

Good luck!

check the under hood fuse box and make sure that the starter fuse is good. No kidding had a coustomers car towed in for that issue.

Ditto on the starter fuse. If is blown and keeps blowing it, its new starter time.
