Removing paint from rubber weatherstrip? - 09/25/12 04:18 PM

Starting to get the Dart clean up. It was painted in 2005 and has not been really cleaned since (stored inside). There is some paint/overspray on the weatherstrip on the tops of the doors (just below the vent window). What can I use to get the paint off?

Right after paint I'd use lacquer thinner, 7 years later... good luck.

I'd start with 000 steel wool or a scotch brite pad. should be just abrasive enough to get the paint off without chewing up the rubber too much

if it's just light overspray try "Goof Off"

Had similar situation and after trying laquer thinner and acetone with marginal results, I went with the steel wool and white vinegar...worked great

This technique is more for a convex shaped rubber part: Point a razor blade straight on the rubber part, then scrape rapidly back and forth. It's like scraping food off a plate with a knife: cleans the food off but doesn't hurt the plate.

If you are really patient and take your time you won't shave off any of the rubber.

Steel wool will leave the rubber with a dull, worn out appearance. DAMHIK

Concave rubber is alot trickier......
