02 Ram, 5.9: no start, flashing CEL. What to check - 09/17/12 02:13 AM

A friend's 02 Ram 2500, 360/5 speed: truck was parked for 2 weeks as he was replacing all the brake lines. Fuel tank was dropped to do the rear line. Once the job was complete, it took a while to get running because the system needed to get primed. Got it running, allowed it to warm up, and then shut it down. Ten mins later, went to again start it and no dice. When turning the ignition to the Run position, the Check Engine light flashes. We have verified the coil is good by installing it on my truck, and it ran fine. The fuel pump cycles, all the fuses are good and there are no codes stored according to the scanner.

Any suggestions on what to check? Crank sensor? ECM?

might try changing the autoshut down relay with say the wiper relay and see if that makes a difference. From my experience with the flashing engine light it is usually from multiple misfires. Did you buddy move the distributor while he was replacing the brake lines?

Autoshut down relay? Would this be on a 360, or just diesel?

The dizzy was not touched at all as part of the job. He did have to move the underhood relay box to access some of the brake lines- but it was not disconnected or anything, and we have 2x checked this and cannot see any issues. Something-somewhere is preventing spark from being generated.

all the JTEC engines use an ASD

but you said the pump primes...if the fuel pump primes, then the ASD relay is working. there's no codes of any sort?

check the crank position sensor.

No codes.

Any info on how to check the crank sensor (ohms, etc..)?

Thanks all for the input thus far.
