300M fuel pressure drop - 09/16/12 09:49 PM

Hey all,
My 2000 300M with 157,000 miles has a hard start issue, takes two cycles of the igniton to fire after sitting for a moment. I checked the fuel preesure while the engine is running and found it drops from 55 lbs to zero the second the engine is shut down. Bad check valve? Where is it and can it be fixed or is it time for a new pump? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Its the regulator in the fuel pump module . Unless you got an injector leaking down or major fuel leak, its time for a fuel pump module.

Thanks yelladuster. Is the fuel pump module under the hood or part of the pump itself in the tank?

Its the pump unit in the tank.

You didn't need to hear that!!! (WTH do they put fuel pumps INSIDE the fuel tanks anymore?)

At least it's not a camaro. It's not a bad job and the tank should even have a drainplug, or at least my 2000 intrepid did. Have to pop lower rear seat cushion to unplug harness IIRC.

Yep if it drops right to zero it sounds like the pump as a leaking inj wont usually drop that fast. And since its a returnless system it would be the valve in the pump. I remember some year intrepids had a plate in the trunk you could remove to get the pump out. I dont think your 300 has that so you will have to drop the tank some. Ron
