it keeps hot oil from being thrown up onto the intake bottom which heats the mixture reducing volumetric efficiency which hurts mileage and power so I would keep it in place

My thought is to keep the oil from coking on the heat crossover with the original heads with exhaust heat. It's a good place for trash to collect, so you might want to pull it off and clean out behind it.

That's why they make these... Keeps hot oil from splashing off the cam onto the bottom of the intake, AND if you bend a pushrod, it helps keep oil pressure up by keeping the lifter in its bore so you have time to pull over and shut down without frying the engine.

Mancini has em (Moroso/Milodon $37.95 ea), www.speedwaymotors.com has a SB chebby one for $12.95 that may or not fit or could be modified slightly to fit & for the price I'd try it plus they are only a mile from me

The one pictured above is made by Milodon and is sold by Summit Racing. I think their part number is 32610.
