2010 Challenger R/T, Day 2 Performance Upgrades... - 08/15/12 06:18 PM

Looking for what works and what doesn't for a 2010 Challenger R/T 5.7. Best bang for the buck...
Exhaust, Cold Air Intake, Headers, etc... Company names and results would e great. Thanks,
Jeff

Go on the Challengertalk.com website. There is a whole section on there about performance mods. There is a wealth of information about new Challengers on there.

A lot of guys have done their research over there. It will take you a while sifting through all the info. But well worth it.
As far as exhaust, the 6 speed cars have such an efficient exhaust that the only real reason to change it is to change the sound. Zoomers sound great. Also Pypes Violator exhaust sounds great. Do a YouTube search and listen to the different systems. Plus Violator sounds like a cool name to tell people.

I was told the same thing about the exhaust from Bob Frederick. The stock exhaust is hard to beat, performance-wise. I put the skip-shift eliminator in mine (well, Bob Frederick put in before he delivered it), as well as the '70-'74 Hurst Pistolgrip from Gunslinger, just for looks and old-school feel. I've also heard:

1. DiabloSport Predator 93 octane tune
2. Cold Air Intake
3. Larger throttle body

...but I'm no expert .

You are basically spot on. A Mopar CAI is as good as any of them for a 3-4 HP increase.

Exhaust is made by many different makers. Depends on what you are looking for in tone and quality and if it is an auto or stick.

Suspension you have Hotchkis, Razors Edge, Pedders, Petty and a few others.

Headers there are a few out there, can't remember their names though.

A Tuner by Diablo is always high on the mods list. Easy peasy to use and get some pretty decent gains.

Also a larger throttle body does NOTHING for a 5.7 unless you are putting a supercharger or something on there.

Of course the only one I've done is the CAI from Mopar.. some better Continental tires and I'm clicking off mid 13's in the quarter mile.

I've actually heard the throttle body has a better gain than the CIA. Speedlogix is a good, knowledgeable source for parts, have many different brands.
Seems Kooks is a really popular header. Depends on if you want to go shorty or long tubes and change the cats and mids.
Do your research. Some guys say things gain nothing, some will swear by things. I am holding off to do the skip-shift because you can turn it off with the Predator. The Trinity from Diablosport isn't really new enough for me to know a lot about it, but since it came out used Predator tuners pop up a lot on Challengertalk.
I dropped the tire pressure and pulled the air filter in my '10 and using the 'key trick' hit 13.78. No mods. Would like to get it into the 12's, but not in a hurry now that I have an old ride to play with.

Everything I've ever read and talk to many people in the business about these cars including SRT engineers.

A bigger throttle body is only required when needing massive amounts of air. Otherwise a stock one will flow really well all the way up to and over 400 hp.

Haha Hank...

I misread. The PORTED stock sized tb is what people say makes the difference. No need for a bigger one, like you said. But smoother air flow always helps!

But the Porting doesn't do anything since it is a stock size and volume.

We will just have to agree to disagree. Seems to me smoothing the air flow is a good thing. Why port cylinder heads? Same size and volume, but makes large horsepower gains?
There is also thread after thread of CIA's not adding any more power than you would get switching to an SRT airbox. They, like the exhaust, are already well designed. They are good eye candy. If someone wants to shell out $300 for 4-10 horsepower, more power to them.
Back to the O.P. Do your research and buy accordingly. The 5.7 is a really good package and seems to make good power. Buying carefully should get you the improvements you are looking for.

I have a 12MY and the K&N intake is $250 versus $375Mopar. HP is up 12 to 20 depending on who you believe. I'd say 12 myself. The mileage increase is definitely there though. I can get 26.4 regularly on the highway(EPA is 23) and have seen 27.7 one time on a 5 gallon sample size. JEGS has a cat back for around $400 that is good for about 20hp.

Lets go real day two. Bigger tires on rear, air shocks, headers and cherry bombs, dixco tach on column with hose clamps, and maybe just maybe a sweet mural etched into the side windows.

A stock 392 SRT Challenger goes 12.29 on the street too.

Thats interesting because I have raced a few with the 5.0 in beat them no problem, and most runs the mustang only goes low 13's on the street.

There were two videos posted here on Moparts of two SRT Challengers with 392 engines. Both were brand new with competent drivers. Both were bone stock. One ran 12.44 @ 116 MPH. The other ran 12.29 @ 118 MPH. You are probably racing the 6.1 SRTs and not the 392 SRTs. Either that or the drivers aren't making the cut. There are plenty of 5.0 stangs in the 13s/14s with bad drivers.

Those numbers are track runs, not on the street. I just find that the 600lb weight advantage that the mustang has gives it a bit of an edge on the street over the Challengers I have raced. They seem to spin the tires more trying to get 4200lbs moving.

Maybe he already has a bellybutton. Back to your herd of sheople.
Out of curiousity, where are the timers you use to determine how fast it goes on the street? Is that a new thing?

Check out http://www.gtechpro.com/ I have used them since 1995, does 0-60, 1/4 mile g-force ect. The new ones are really amazing, but I still have the first one I bought 17 years ago and It still works great. And I have had it on the track and it is really close for ET.

Not at all, but I figured I would at least answer your question.
