LBP 7-1/4 Rear - 08/14/12 02:47 AM

Was there a 7-1/4 rear with a LBP ever produced in an A-Body and if so what year?

'73-'76 A body. I believe only with BBP single piston discs up front

My old 74 318 Valiant had the big bolt pattern 7-1/4.

So I do have a set of LBP axles from a 73-76 7-1/4 rear..The next question is,will they fit in the SBP axled housing I have in my 71 Dart? From the bearing specs from NAPA,it does not seem so..The OD and ID of the bearings are different..

I had a 76 Feather Duster with a LBP 7 1/4.

I believe that the axle housing and shafts are narrower on the 73-76 models.

I think they are the same width but they appear narrower because the front track is wider due to the disk brakes.

also realize you would have to change the brakes , the axle offset of the 2 are more than likely different .

I think you answered your own question , if the ID is different, that is the part the axle rides on , then the axle won't fit the bearing in your rear properly . If the OD is different then the bearing that fits the new axle will not fit the housing .

The axles and housings are completely different, so they do not interchange.

Thanks everyone for all the input..I was thinking I would cut the LBP axles .100" and use the SBP bearings..I would also switch the retaining plates due to the 5 vs 4 hole issue..The only thing that might be a problem is the brake back spacing as JohnRR stated..Just trying to avoid spending approx $1000 to set up an 8-3/4 with LBP axles right now..

You should be able to do an A body rear for a lot less than that even piecing one together.

If by "dang near" you mean spring pads that are several inches apart, sure.....Its real close.

76-80 F rear is about 1" wider than a 72 A 7-1/4, perch to perch.

Little bit off topic, but I heard that the guys who build lawn tractor pull tractors will actually pay real money for those 7 1/4 diffs.

If my info is correct the BBP all have 10" drums. Just sold one.
