Repairing leaking freeze plug...best way to do it...

I have a freeze plug on the passenger side in the center of the block that is starting to leak. Its not pooring out but it is dripping. What is the best way to repair this when in the car temporarily until i can get the car to my buddys house who has a lift?

I had a rad that popped a leak & I drove 3 blocks to the Kwik shop & bought a tin of coarse ground black pepper & added it & drove home & when I got there it stopped . I was surprised & I drove it a year & it never leaked till it popped another leak in another location then I replaced it with an alum radiator. But the 1st leak though miniscule was coming out in a good stream which made it easy for the pepper granules to be pulled into and seal the hole which is not the case with your dripping leak and I'm not real crazy about adding anything of a stop leak nature to the coolant but on my DD beater I had no choice at the time but to try it.

Noticed I had a leaky one in my old work truck yarns ago. Took a cedar shim, sharpened it, and drove it in. Worked so well I forgot about it until a couple of weeks later.

I would fill it with water and loosen the radiator cap to prevent pressure. That is if you are going to go straight to his house.

If you plan on driving it awhile it will be a crap shoot. I have never seen just one pinhole form in a freeze plug or in just one freeze plug. If one is leaking the others are about to. I suggest you replace them all.

While you have the plugs out shoot a water hose up inside the holes and you will be surprised at the junk that will wash out.

That being said I kept my Challenger on the road for about 2 years with a monthly dose of the copper powder barrs leak stuff.

You need a engine crane when the time comes to repair it. Because you should do all of them and there are some between the trans and motor. It's the only right way unless they have been done before.
I pulled mine(motor and trans) Sat morning to replace them all and had the motor and trans back togeather Sat eve. Sun morning I put it back into the car and was driving it by 3 PM. It's not that big of a deal with a concrete drive and some tools.

After pressure washing, got to love that pressure washer, helped me clean out the water jacket too.

ASSuMEing he has a small block , no plugs in the rear on a big block .
