440 fuel pump bolts...teflon tape...loctite?

440 fuel pump bolts...teflon tape...loctite? - 08/04/12 07:57 PM

Slowly putting parts back on the 440 and getting ready for the install.

Fuel pump time, do I need to put teflon tape or loctite on the bolts?

Thanks.

the bolts are open in the housing , , me personally I always put some kind of locktite sealer on them to prevent oil weeping up the threads.

new bolts have a thread sealer / lock tight on them btw

Loctite or thread sealer but definitely NOT Teflon tape .

I usually just run them in dry , never seen a leak there .

Right, NOT teflon tape!
I just reinstalled a fuel pump about 2 weeks ago put the the bolts in dry. Drove the car over 500 miles since then. 75 miles yesterday!

When there are fluids involved and vibration/loosening is not the main concern, I sparingly apply Black Permatex Ultraseal to clean threads & both sides of the gasket surface, being sure to wipe off any excess that may squeeze out once tightened.

The trick is to use only a thin film on mating surfaces and just enough to fill the threads on the bolts. When done correctly, you won't even have to wipe the excess, as there won't be any.

Me TOO, the original bolts have a nylon insert in them, it seals and and acts as locktite material also
