Hemi distributor # - 11/07/08 03:56 PM

I'm looking at this 426 Hemi distributor. part #2875327 the number doesn't come up in any books I have. he says it's a 1968 optional distributor. anybody ever see this number before?

There's no such thing as a 1968 "Optional" distributor. He's probably got an over the counter race or replacement piece he's trying to sell, they are pretty common.

I think he's looking at Galen's white book. It lists a:

'SPECIAL ORDER PARTS 2875255/ "LESS CAP & ROTOR" 2875327/ IBB-4401A 1968 426 HEMI BOTH (manual and automatic) A (body) TACH DR'

I've tried to accurately reproduce the listing but the original is a little jumbled.

If you can fund the transistor ignition control that goes with it they work real well,if not still works good.

Looks like a tack drive distributor for a 1968 super stock Dart or Baracuda to me.

Re: Hemi distributor # - 11/08/08 04:37 PM

So was the hemi distributor the same as the rest of the big blocks?

I've got the one that supposedly came with my 69 hemi...but I was told it was probably not unique from other big block distributors.

Thanks!

Actually, the only thing that makes it unique is the tag."If it is the original tag"

The vacuum advance unit and the centrifugal advance are both different and have unique stamped numbers on them.

The mechanical advance unit would require one from a real Hemi distributor or an NOS Hemi part.

Bill,
When did they change from a metal seal to an o-ring on the distributor housing?

Re: Hemi distributor # - 01/13/09 02:07 AM

sorry to revive this post after 2 months. does anybody have the listing for certain part numbers associated with 426 HEMI only motors? like, I have a dual point here with the numbers IBS4006 2642482 I want to say it comes from a 67 GTX that bit the bullet 30 years back. does anybody out there know for sure? thank's; Greg

Re: Hemi distributor # - 01/13/09 02:24 AM

Looks like an original tag and distributor, number is correct and so is likely the date for a 1966 production Hemi (34th week of 1966 assembly date). It is also possible that it was in an early 67. Does the 4006 have any other letters stamped after it?

Re: Hemi distributor # - 01/13/09 02:41 AM

so, the C is for Chrysler, and the P is for Prestolite?

Re: Hemi distributor # - 01/13/09 03:48 AM

Yea, as I said before, same number for 1966 & 67, the date code puts it in really late 1966 or really early 1967 production model year territory.

Re: Hemi distributor # - 01/13/09 04:31 AM

actually, the 34th week ends up the 2nd last week of august '66, so the new '67 model cars were being released in august??
Posted By: ScottSmith_Harms

Re: Hemi distributor # - 01/13/09 04:39 AM

Yea, you're right, August puts it into the 1967 model year, my math was bad on converting the weeks to months. 67 cars would be being built after the first of August
