Need a recommendation for a wiring harness - 07/18/12 02:17 AM

Figured Id post this on this board as well as the general board...Anybody recommend a good stock firewall-foreward wiring harness for the engine bay of a 72 duster for my buddy? Im not on the general board here much and the search function stinks so I doubt I can find much that way...any help would be appreciated here..his old harness was hacked up bad by someone who should be banned from ever holding wire cutters again.

M&H Harness sold through Year One is the main supplier for factory replacement harnesses. They make good stuff if a bit expensive.

You can try Evan's wiring harnesses. I got mine from him. Very pleased. Looks great. Can't tell the difference from original. Even the connectors.

Do not go with Evan's he does not have very good quality control. Ends not crimped, wires not in the correct location, also a little short compared to oem.And if you have to send back you have to pay shipping.

I guess I was lucky then. I have no complaints and everything went smooth. Has this happened often ?

Well, before I even knew better someone warned me about their quality. They had some of the wires in the wrong location on the plugs. Horn wouldn't work,so I thought I can just move them to the right location when I found that half of the crimps were on the insolation instead of the copper wire.Had to send it back on my dime. And on some 71s the oil pressure sending unit on some cars has a special resistance wire between the sending unit and the harness. He said that he never heard of that, when it shows it in the factory book. Also there is a plastic thing behind the battery that is taped into the harness to locate it for and aft, in a hole in the inner fender. His doesn't come that you have to try and track one down and tape it in. That what I've found so far.Don't have the motor in yet so.

I got my forward engine harness thru Year One. I eliminated 44 years of butchering, cutting, splicing and everything looks so much neater. No problems with the harness so far.

Yep...I've bought a lot of their harnesses & never a problem.
Sometimes, they're out of stock, but its worth the wait.

I had a hard time forking over all that money for a complete M&H harness for my 69 GTX,but after I put everything together and it worked perfect it was money well spent and I was happy. The harness is very well made,I had a question about a section of the AC harness and the tech guy was very nice to deal with.

I hear you on the "PRICEY" thing. They do command a premium price. But for my re-wire...complete dash, under hood, and headlight harnesses...it has been money well spent. Yesterday I started the electrical portion of my build of my 1966 Ply Sat and was completely surprised that more than 70 % of it functioned normally. I even bumped the starter to see how that worked and the motor cranked. I have a few bugs to work out but all in all, the wiring works and performs as advertised. M&H produces a superior product. To those that have used Evans harnesses, all I have ever heard about them is what has already been said in this post. Sloppy workmanship and overall inferior quality. If you want to waste money then purchase what you want. But if you are going to do something correctly and right, then the M&H is by far the superior one to purchase...IMHO...

Hot340, I recently replaced my 71 Demon340 rallye main harness (old one is 4sale)with the Y1. I waited for the 30% off and gotit. I laid the old one next to the new one and everything matched perfectly. Time consuming putting it in but well worth it. Good luck
