I'm changing engines.Carb prep for long term storage?? - 07/11/12 04:55 AM

I'm pulling my perfectly good complete 383 with a holly carb and mech fuel pump and putting it away for perhaps a long time..And putting in my new 511 package. Should I run the engine out of gas befoe pulling it? Or run fuel with stabilizer into the pump and carb ? Plug vents and lines? Or don't it matter because the rubber will be shot in a few years anyway? Or take off the carb and pump and put in a sealed bucket of oil.

I say drain the carb. Don't ley it sit with fuel in it or it will end up like my buddys 6 pack. All 3 carbs look like this.

I removed the factory sixpack from my car in the 70's. Dumped the fuel and used an oil squirt can attached to the fuel line to fill the carbs with ATF. Installed that same setup on my car almost 30 years later. Absolutely no carb issues after installation.
