6 pack outboard mixture screws - 07/08/12 07:42 PM

Do they still sell the tiny mixture screws for the outboard carbs? I am rebuilding a buddys carbs which were sitting for the last 10 years. The mixture screws were frozen and I would like to replace them. This is what the front bowl looked like.

Maybe spray both sides with PB Blaster, let sit overnight. See if it loosens. If not, place it on a hot plate to warm it up.

I got one out but the other ones head stripped. Do they still make these tiny mixture screws? They are smaller than a regular mixture screw.

The first thing you need to do on any old 6pk carb that has tight screws is get the old cork seal out.It gets rock hard from age and first thing that happens is off comes one side of the screw head.Probably 75% of the carbs I get for restoration have at least two broken screws.I made a drill pilot that enables me to drill the screw on center, have a four sided pin punch, tap into hole, heat base around screw and 99% have came out.If you drill without a pilot and get off center you can plan on scrapping the base.

You can get the screws from Chicago Corvette Supply for less $$ than from Holley.Part # M1513.

If you only need one,PM me and I'll put one in the mail.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to a reputable carb shop tomorrow and let them take out the screw. I just wanted to know if the screws are still available. Thanks.

Can't you just buy that assmebly? I know you can buy the carbs for $325-350 at Auto-Zone. That thing looked toasted..you must have worked on it for a long time to get it looking that good. I would have tossed it in the trash.

Stripped base is around $100.

These were worse than the above when I got them.

69sixpackbee sells a custom socket head style screw along with a ball end type allen wrench tool so you can adjust and tune without removing the carbs.

62maxwgn thank you. His v code 4 speed roadrunner has been sitting for the last 10 yrs. I finally talked him into getting back into the car. He just wants to get the car running and then he is probably going to get a new set of carbs. These are not the original carbs. He bought these back in 1984 from six pack perf. I hate to see what the gas tank looks like inside. He is probably going to buy a new tank as well.
