Have a tiny weaping leak between the kickdown band adjusting screw and it's locknut. As the locknut is on TIGHT I assume I need to seal the screw and locknut with teflon tape? Can I just remove the adjusting screw, clean and dry the opening and tape it or will I need to remove the valve body? think the strut rod on the band will drop out won't it? Hopefully dropping the pan won't be required as I just got the engine/trans back in the car and running after nearly 2 years and want to drive this thing now.... If dropping the pan will be required probably will break in motor etc before doing that to make sure all is is well with the trans (added a transgo TF2 while the trans was out and a 4.2 lever). broke in the cam already and the trans appeared to work well with the car in the air.

You can't put Teflon tape on it, maybe some non hardening Teflon thread sealer but it may throw off your torque reading . and yes if you pull it all the way out the band strut is going to loosen and fall in the pan. You can back it out some and put thread sealer on the last few threads and that may seal it . Check to make sure it's the adjuster bolt that's leaking , I thought I had a leak there , it was actually leaking from the tranny cooler adapter fitting that screwed into the case.

I'd remove the lock nut without disturbing your setting on the screw then spray the screw threads with starting fluid to clean them then putting some green loctite on the screw threads which it wicks down into the threads then quickly locking the nut back on & that might seal it. What John said, confirm the leak location first EDIT if teflon thread sealer would work better I'd think you could remove the nut & back the screw off exactly a certain # of turns (say 3) then spray the exposed threads with starting fluid to clean them/let it evaporate then daub them with teflon sealer then screw it back in the exact # of turns to maintain your original torque reading

I had one doing the same thing. Backed the locknut off,cleaned with brakeclean. Put a small dab of high temp silicone on the threads of the adjuster and put it back together.
Dry for two years now,race application.
