trying to turn over long dormit 383

trying to turn over long dormit 383 - 06/30/12 08:24 PM

The convert has set for bout 8 years
i got it into the shop (its long needed new home)
hooker jumper box to the cables put top down
tried bumping key to see if motor would spin but just get a click on passenger side guiessing somewhere around #8 cyl and dipstick tube area
Any thoughts????

im not starting it till gets primed right now just trying to get it to bump over

Put a wrench on it instead, and you'll know right away.

Thats a thought but id have to take rad. Out and fan/shroud off not ready to start taking car apart right yet
i fig the motor will be locked
right now just trying to fig out what would be clicking on passenger side???

relay is on driver side same side as starter

If you didn't oil down the cylinders they are rusted.

You can get a socket, short extension, and a breaker bar in there; I do it all the time on my Roadrunner. I'd pull the plugs and squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil or regular oil down in there, let it sit for a bit, then get manly with the breaker bar. Unless you plan to rebuild the thing, I'd do the oil & filter and spin up some oil pressure before lighting it off.

i would 'bump' the relay and track down the noise from under the hood. could just be a ground strap if there is one from the back pass head to the firewall.

Any engine that has sat dormant for that long will benefit from soaking the cylinders.

I had planed on pulling the plugs its the clicking when o hit the key im trying to fig. Out
