Could a 5.7/6.1 fit in a PTCruiser with mods? - 06/30/12 03:20 PM

Hey guys...had a couple of design projects in my head for something to do that would be different. Anyhow, the "sleeper" concept got me thinking about modding a PT Cruiser into a PT Bruiser.

Assuming major drive train mods to address weight, handling, etc. could it work or is the front just too small?

anything will 'fit' if you want too bad enough.

stick it in the back with rear wheel drive. Mid engine baby.

There is/was a 5.7 hemi powered PT cruiser in the Nashville Tn area.
It was white if I remember correctly.
Saw it a few years back, very cool car and was well done. It looked like it came from Mopar that way.

No idea on who owned it or the work involved but maybe someone from the area has more info on or knows the car.

There used to be a stock bodied one around here (no cage or anything) that had a 360 stuffed into it. It was nicely done, but for some reason sat almost 4wd high.

Is a 5.7 externally smaller than an LA motor?

Almost the moment the PT was released to the buying public, there was a LOT of talk about kits for a V8, RWD mods. Did ANY of those companies ever do it?

Somebody from the Cleveland, TN area had one at the Smoky Mountain Mopar Show a couple of years ago. I would have never known it if it didn't have a 5.7 Hemi sticker on the side. Very well done.

There was a PT Cruiser at the Sacramento show last weekend that had a 426 HEMI in it!!!!!
It had definitely been modified to fit. It might be posted on the web site by now as it took 1st place in the category
www.capitalcitymopars.com
It also had to be registered in MONTANA, never would have made smog in Ca!

There was 426 Hemi PT at the LA Spring Fling. Man they are everywhere! I wouldn't want one, just too damn common.

Found on the interweb:

That car is hard to forget. It's very nice. It belongs to a couple who are late 50's or early 60's. Nice people, and the lady captured my wife and about talked her ears off!

surprised, as it seems like there's barely room for the 4cyl in there...

I always thought the PT was a good concept but looks like it got squished between a couple of semi's on the highway. They need fenders twice as wide and running boards. To do a hemi and stretch the fenders about 4 inches and add wider tires, that would be quite something.

The PT Cruiser is a rather good scaled down version of a 1937 Ford slantback. You could look it up.

I've seen a 454 in a VW bug running 10s, the 5.7 in PT would be easier.
