318 roller cam ? - 06/30/12 02:52 PM

I have an 86 B200 Dodge van w/318 la engine.

Is there any way to tell if this is a roller cam engine without taking it apart?

Thanks

if it is the original motor it will not be a roller cam, only cars got roller cams in that year. it will be a roller block though.

my 85 truck was roller block, came with flat tappet,i swaped it to roller came with all stock roller gear.

the 88 4-v gran fury cop engine I have was the same thing, roller block with flat tappet. swaped it to roller cam also. used 1990 tbi roller gear.

only cars with 2-v/tbi got a roller cam starting in 85,truck went roller cam in 89 with tbi,all trucks/4-v engines got a flat tappet till 89.

remember... roller cam engines with carbs/mech fuel pumps got the long nose cam,tbi engines got the short nose cam with no mech fuel pump.

I used a lunati voodoo roller cam with a long nose to swap mine over with all stock valve gear and used a set of comp 901-16 springs.

my last set of stock roller lifters got over 300,000 miles before I shelved them.
