How to remove SB oil filter mounting plate? - 11/03/08 05:48 PM

I was at the junkyard yesterday and finally got the bolt/stud/tube thing out with a 3/8" extension, but how am I supposed to remove the plate that is behind it? I tried prying, twisting, without anything working!

I have had good luck with a small chisel/screwdriver in the center hole. Drive it in at an angle between the plate and the block.

Work around the inside in a circle. Don't jamb it in one side or you may bend the plate. Work it around and it will eventually break the seal on the outside edge.

While you are at it add a few extra holes for the oil to flow through the plate like I have found on the HD engines. The weakest link for the everyday small block is the restrictive oil system IMHO.

& if you are interested in more SB oiling info go here. www.moparchat.com then scroll down to & click on circle track chat then checkout Sanborns oiling mods that are in a sticky at the top of the page. It might take you several hours to sort thru all of it but he is one of the foremost SB oiling experts in the country & if your eng is being built up from scratch right now his info will benefit you & I used alot of his mods on a BB as the oiling system is routed pretty similar.

P5249320 thats the Gskts to service the rt angle adapter which are the same as yoy neeed also there should be no adapter plate on the block with a 90adapter what are you trying to do here? the plate is available from mopar or was last time i checked you need that Pn too?.Rt angle oil fiter adapter Kits aint no 35.00 either they are 139.95 from Mancini.

I'd just buy a new one. They are cheap and pretty
flat. Hit the block side surface with some 320 grip
paper on a blocked surface to make sure it's flat.

As for the extra hole, more can help but keep in mind you are restricted on both paths AND you will not be able to open up the center hole in the mounting stud.

The kit I bought for 35 dollars had the gaskets, plate and new mounting stud.

are you talking the 90 degree rt angle oil filter adapter or the plate for the straight mount to the block?

i dont believe you need the rt angle adapter for manifolds.

for 1 3/4 hooker super comps on an e body, you can use the shorty filter and it will fit straight to the block
