Dodge magnum with 140k - 06/23/12 02:55 PM

I can get a nice magnum R/T 2005 for around 6k... Car has 145k miles On the hemi... How are these motors with high miles??? Should I just stay away from it? Always liked the magnums just don't know alot about them.. Would like some info and opinions... Thanks all

i would treat it like looking at any other used car; does it use oil, leak, how do the vital fluids look etc. valvetrain noise,(HEMI tick) is common on these motors. also there is a front end clunk that is common on the lx's i think it is caused by a worn tie rod. there is a member over on the lx forums that put a cam & nitrous on his 100,000+ magnum, & runs it hard & he dosen't have any reliability issues.
btw i love my magnum!

Whats the intended use? If your looking for a daily driver and have a commute of 100+ a day, then you may look at something with less miles. Looking for a hotrod that your going to upgrade and beat on, then may work. Going all out and Turbo, supercharger or N2O, heads and all out race car, then this will get you in the door with an engine swap in the future, then it will work. Just depends on the intended use.

With reasonable care, the Hemi and the rest of the powertrain that goes with it seems to live a long happy life. I traded my last Durango with 165k on the Hemi. Oil consumption same as new. Besides plugs, I believe I put a water pump and fan clutch on it. That's about it for the engine. The chassis needed a reman steering rack and 9 1/4" rear rebuild.
