bucket seat floor track bottom stud question - 11/02/08 03:22 AM

How do you get the studs out of the floor track for bucket seats in an 70 Abody.
The studs on my tracks are in the center position of the three square "hole" position where the track sits on the floor.
My seat is too close to the steering wheel, and because I'm old and fat I want to move the studs to the first position, which will move the seat toward the rear a little.
I gently tapped on one with a rubber mallet but it didn't budge. Are they welded in?
They look like they can be repositioned or am I wrong on this
thanks for the help

They are pressed into place and will require pressing out or a heavy hit with a 5 lb sledge. Place a socket under the head (seat tracks upside down while doing this), then thread a nut onto the stud so the end of the stud is flush with the face of the nut. With the track supported by the socket (which will be large enough to allow the stud's head to fit inside when pounde out), give it a square, solid hit with the sledge while holding the socket in place.

and I assume just thread a nut on the stud to draw them back into place in the new location.
Thanks for the guidance ITP.
