HEMI Pulleys - Bouchillon Performance

HEMI Pulleys - Bouchillon Performance - 06/12/12 02:26 AM

I picked up these Hemi Pulleys last week made by Bouchillon Performance. The crank pulley is a double groove for Power Steering. Does the water pump and crank pulley look correct? Something is not right here.

What year did you buy them for ? The water pump pulley is not the 69-71 repop.

Look like the OEM pulley's on my 440. PS is a little larger. WP and crank line up?

I like the larger top pulley for belt gripping. I don't see a problem with the pulleys as you have good belt alignment.

If it is for a street car you might want a smaller pulley on the water pump.

It is for a street car. I just have never seen the crank and water pump pulley that close to each other. They do line up.

I'll give you a heads up now.

Media blast the paint off they use. then scuff the belt grove with something like 80 grit , then repaint.

I had a lot of belt squeels till I did just that

Use the large pulley it gives better grip for the belt and during high RPM rev's you will need it.
Use a high volume water pump, it's pretty much a must use part.

So it sounds like this pulley set up is normal. I just have never seen the crank pulley and the water pump pulley that close to each other.

I don't think that is a normal combination of pulleys, but that doesn't mean that it won't work. You'll just have to try it and see. For a street engine you would probably want a smaller water pump pulley in order to move more water. The combination you have on there right now looks more like a circle track setup that slows the water pump down for higher engine speeds.

I really don't think you have anything to be worried about. These are OEM pulleys on my 440. Yeah, they're close together. Been running them for years - no issues. I had them powder coated before actually putting them into service. No slippage, no squeals. In fact, the powder coat has not worn out of the grooves. I can tell you that if your PS belt flaps at all it may contact the WP pulley and mar the finish.

I wouldn't worry about it. Ask the folks at BPE about them. They sold them to you. Those guys & gals are very knowledgable about thier parts & will explain any worries that you have.

Cars with low gears on the street would probably benefit from those pulleys especially being that the coolant will slow down enough to absorb heat instead of flying by at a higher rpm
That's why the circle track boys run a setup like that

Call and talk to JR, he knows his mopar pulleys.

And I have bought 2 sets from them and they fit perfect and don't squeal.
I drove one of them yesterday at 120 miles per hour for miles in NV. In other words I drive em, I know.
If they squeal then you have the wrong combo of pulleys imo.

I glass bead the grooves, In the past my experience with powdercoated pulleys has had some squealing here & there, not every set but I strip the groove on them anyway
