Switching to a high volume oil pump - 11/02/08 02:59 AM

I'm going to put in a Melling high volume oil pump (MH63HV)onto my '69 383. I know the bolts have to be longer, but is there any need to change to a longer distributor drive gear shaft??

Did your pump on the motor now fail?

Relief valve stuck open on me on a standard pump, I don't trust it to do it again

I would suggest saving the spring from the standard Melling pump and swap it into the new HV Melling. I had some really high pressure after going to the HV pump (125+) Swapped the standard pressure spring and am now running around 80.

hope you have a deep /oversize pan.. the HV pumps can move a lot of oil in a hurry and leave the pan empty...
