Big Block 727 Automatics Best Years for Cores? - 11/01/08 11:17 AM

Hi Folks,

I'm thinking of getting rid of some big block 727's and I need to know what are the best ones for me to keep as cores. Any particular years or numbers better than others? Any help appreciated.

Thanks

The ones with the steering lockout aren't as desirable, which is +71. Lupo doesn't even buy them as cores.

They do buy pre 71, no steering lockout for $100 ea. Any musclecar cores are more desirable to private restorers. Check the #'s per Galens book.

slightly off topic, There was a good article way back in one of the Mopar mags addressing (727)trans failure & they tracked it down to mixing & matching certain(splined??) parts that were cut at a different angle(it was way back) & gave several groupings of years that needed to be kept together. I have it somewhere.

Most builders prefer the wide front drum bushing which was introduced in '71 but this was also the first year for the controlled load front servo and modified accumulator circuits.

Bottom line, to build a good trans it's nice to have parts from both the '71-on and pre-'71 units so I would (and do) keep as many as it's possible to store.
