If it's a repetative bunch of popping, it could have a round cam lobe.

I had that happen on my 440. Was running an eldelbrock aluminum intake with a carter 4-bbl.

when I switched over to a new six pack setup, I noticed that the bolts were loose on the 4-bbl intake.oops! I made sure that I used a new gasket and tightened it up the second go around. No trouble with the new setup. Lean condition caused by loose intake?

Check your firing order and plug wire orientation & routing..

I have had the same problem more than once. every time, it was a wiped cam lobe.

If it only does it under acceleartion I would think it is a lean air/fuel mixture mis-fire.
Check for vacuum leaks, and maybe the outer carbs are opening too quickly or may be too lean?
