Speedo - 05/25/12 04:16 AM

How do I position the speedo cable when I re-install it in a 904? Just pulled out the cable in my '83 Gran Fury and when I re-installed it the speedo didn't work.

count the number of teeth on the gear, then read the housing, it will tell you how to install it. Tim

You don't need to count the teeth, just look at the gear from the shaft end, the number of teeth is cast into the gear....
Especially visible on the 44 tooth gear at the lower right....

And the housing has three positions depending on the tooth count of your gear...

Make sure you don't miss the hole when inserting it into the speedo housing. Don't ask me how I know.

OK so whatever tooth count you have goes in the 6 o-clock position?

That's why it's in the General Forum instead of where it belongs, in the Q&A forum.

basically yes , there is a raised rib on the tail housing and a corresponding line under the second of the 2 pinion tooth count range, those 2 marks line up.

And the bolt-on 'keeper/hold down' will have it's tangs in 2 of those slots so the gear-house doesn't turn under use.

Whoever drew that arrow on that picture wasn't very smart. Seems the line is right on the little knob/bump you use to line up the gearhousing. He should have made sure the knob was visible and even pointed out with another arrow.
