Total / Initial timing questions - 05/18/12 03:36 PM
I'm sure this has been talked about before. Can someone please explain to me what total timing and initial timing is and what they do? I know what timing is and what the advance is for but the rest confuses me.
Thanks in advance.

Total timing is the initial plus mechanical.
Initial is what you give it by twisting the Dizzy. Mechanical is what is built into the Dizzy mostly by the Bushing in the Dizzy.
An 18 degree bushing in my MSD dist. (dizzy) and twisting it so that pointing a gun at the timing marks shows 36 degrees means I have 18 degrees of intial.
Rev 'er up 'til the timing mark stops advancing. That is your total.
Think of initial like a timing preload.

I am too lazy to look up how, and too ignorant, to spell distributor, sorry.
