Rear End noise - 10/28/08 05:21 PM

Hi Guy's I have a 67 barracuda that came with a 273 and 7 1/4 rear end. I just put in a mild 340 and when I was driving it this weekend after a day of flogging it pretty good on the way home I noticed when I would turn and slowed down and sped up from stops a loud CLUNK would come from the rear end I believe. Once it started I headed straight home and when I was cruising on the hiway it seemed not to do it very often but once I slowed down, sped up or turned it would Clunk. Any ideas. I am all ready looking for a 8 3/4, Thanks

pull the cover and have a look those parts are easy to change! If you get a piece of side gear in the ring and pinion you will ruin the whole thing

Randys R&P has new side gears for them that might hold up longer than (1) weekend.

Might be time to look for an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 for that car. The 7 1/4 is probably a short term part behind a 340.
