Build them. It's not that hard.

A gentleman named Paul, over at the A12 Forum, makes them.

I think that's where that picture came from and thetalk was $350 a set, that's about 5x what I'd like to pay. I guess I could make them but if somebody had a set for under $100 I'd probably buy a set.

Not sure how fancy you want them, but I bet they could be made out pipe, with a few holes. A little rednecky, but I may do that myself.

not too worried about that it will be more for function than form.

Sets for around $200 in the "deals" section here on Moparts. You've either got to machine the tops to be narrow and fit through the hood-pin holes, or actually mount 4 hood pins onto poles, so I guess there is some cost to them either method.

PVC pipe, bush the top down to fit thru the hole in the hood, bushing would hold the hood up and drill a hole thru top little pipe to hold the hood. Drill the lower pipe to put a pin thru to hold the upright thru the lower pin mounted on the car. Paint them black or whatever color. Make them for 20.00, any length you wanted. I should patent this, make a fortune.

probably could use small PVC pipe w/ threaded rod at the top. Drill a few holes for the hood pins, slam it w/ some cast Alum paint and done. Might do it this weekend

Yes, you should patent that idea... Although I doubt if you would sell many to guys interested in supporting a $1000 hood about 18" above a several-thousand dollar paint job on a nice car. As I said before, I think there is a reason that they aren't cheaply-made, I don't know how much wind your PVC idea would resist.

i made a set out of electrical conduit (home depot) and pipe connectors with 4 large bolts through the hood pin holes.

I wouldn't use PVC. If you don't go the conduit route you can get aluminum rod from McMaster-Carr or MetalsDepot, shape the ends to look like hood pins, drill holes above and below where the hood goes and then install sleeves to go over the original pins.

Theres a vinyl top on that A12, so I don't see a big deal about putting the hood on the roof. I also think those prop rods are just plain stupid, in my opinion anyways.

my roof is painted, more for "storage" at the track than anything. A good gust of wind and it will flip over, flop around or fall. This will keep the hood up and out of the way and I still can work on the engine if need be between rounds. I wouldn't be using it for "display" purposes.
